We believe that each person’s unique blend of biological, psychological, and social circumstances plays a role in their addiction. Our holistic approach targets treatment of each of these areas as they relate to the individual’s addiction.
Brisas’ extensive spectrum of services, combines the best of eastern and western medicine, allowing us to pinpoint the most effective combination of therapies for each patient. In keeping with our highly customized approach to treatment, we accept a minimal number of patients concurrently. This allows for a more intimate and flexible setting where our team of certified psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists can cater to each patient’s individualized needs.
WHAT MAKES BRISAS UNIQUE?
Brisas’ treatment incorporates a variety of modalities into the recovery process. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, we provide innovate and holistic mental health therapies such as neurofeedback, mindfulness meditation, yoga, nutritional training and more.
Our intensive outpatient program allows patients to undergo treatment without having to take time away from work, school, or family. We incorporate relapse prevention strategies throughout treatment to better equip patients for long term recovery.
DOES BRISAS TREAT ANYTHING OTHER THAN ADDICTION?
With addiction, we often see co-occurring psychological conditions such as ADHD, bipolar, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Our esteemed team of licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists are well equipped to treat these and other commonly co-occurring conditions.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER TREATMENT?
Many insurance plans cover outpatient addiction treatment, however each plan is different. Please call us and we will be happy to work with you to determine the level of coverage that your insurance plan offers.
IS MEDICAL INTERVENTION A REQUIREMENT OF THE TREATMENT PROGRAM?
Although scientific research supports the efficacy of pharmaceuticals in the treatment of opioid addiction, we believe this is an individualized decision. It is therefore optional and dependent upon each individual’s personal beliefs and desires. Where agreed upon and appropriate, we may incorporate the use of medication into your treatment plan.
I’M WORRIED THAT I WILL RELAPSE AFTER THE PROGRAM. HOW CAN BRISAS HELP ME AVOID THIS?
As part of the program, we will incorporate relapse prevention training, where you will be introduced to techniques and resources to use throughout your long term recovery.
WILL I HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK OR SCHOOL TO ATTEND TREATMENT?
Our Intensive Outpatient Program was designed to accommodate patients who have daily obligations to work or family. Since program hours are flexible, you can continue fulfill your personal obligations while undergoing treatment.
HOW WELL QUALIFIED IS THE TEAM AT BRISAS TO TREAT ADDICTION?
Brisas is run under the general supervision of Medical Director, Dr. Keerthy Sunder, an accomplished physician with extensive experience as a clinician, researcher, administrator, teacher, lecturer and writer of peer review journals. Dr. Sunder, author of the international best selling book, Addictions: Face Your Addiction & Change Your LIfe is a recognized expert in the field of addiction recovery.
Prior to opening Brisas Recovery and Wellness Center, Dr. Sunder ran a successful addiction treatment facility in La Jolla that catered exclusively to executives such as doctors, lawyers and pilots. The doctor opened Brisas with the vision of helping a wider range of people with his unique, holistic approach to treatment. Under Dr. Sunder’s supervision, Brisas has a team of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists, all with extensive experience in treating various addictions and co-existing psychological conditions.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROGRAM TAKE?
The program can last anywhere from four to twelve weeks depending upon each patient’s individual needs and circumstances.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF OUTPATIENT VS. INPATIENT TREATMENT?
The decision to attend outpatient vs. inpatient treatment is a personal one. Brisas’ Intensive Outpatient Program, however has the advantage of allowing individuals to continue fulfilling their commitments to family, work, and the community while in treatment. This allows them to maintain a sense of normalcy and consistency during treatment, in the context of their current environment. Patients learn to use what they have been taught in the program to successfully manage challenges that present in their day-to-day lives.
IS BRISAS LICENSED OR ACCREDITED?
Brisas is certified by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), the entity responsible for licensing, certification, regulation and oversight of statewide treatment facilities. This certification is granted to only those facilities that the DHCS deems to provide a high standard of quality service to all participants in a healthful and safe environment.
DOES BRISAS PROVIDE DETOX OR INPATIENT SERVICES?
While we do not provide these services, we have collaborated with the most reputable local detox and Sober Living facilities. As part of our service, we can help coordinate admission and provide daily transportation to and from these facilities.
